Hello! I am Peggy Houston-Nienaber, candidate for House District 66 Kentucky State Representative. I have lived in Boone County for 22 years, I have worked in Boone County Schools for over 12 years. I am the wife of David Nienaber and a mom to Jordan, 30 years old and Rhett 20 years old.
Learn MoreI am a history and business middle/high school certified teacher and I have several years of business experience. I was an accountant/analyst for over 18 years and a realtor for 9 years. I hold a Political Science degree from NKU and I obtained my Masters in teaching from University of the Cumberlands in 2019. I am a lifelong learner and a great example of how to be an American citizen. I am a Christian and my family are members of the First Church of Christ in Burlington.
I am a proud Boone County, Kentuckian and I decided to run because our legislature needs people like me. My accounting/finance experience and my ability to communicate effectively will help lift up Kentuckians and bring our state to the level it needs. Our budget needs help, the people of house district 66 deserve to know what is actually happening to our tax dollars. The lower income Kentuckians need the opportunity to have a world class education. Our public schools deserve to be enhanced instead of constantly belittled and held in contempt with the legislature. Our children deserve more from the adults in the legislature and I am the one who will ensure it.
Personally, I have witnessed pharmacies in our community not be able to support the elderly appropriately with the rising costs of drugs. Healthcare laws need to be adjusted to educate the pharmacy employees and consumers to help them understand how to stop paying higher drug prices and insurance companies should advocate more for the consumer to keep their drug prices at an affordable level. Healthcare needs to be expanded to give consumers better choices and healthcare in Kentucky. Our area is underserved in healthcare.
We need to make Kentucky jobs that are higher waged in our state to help get the young people that are graduating to want to stay and live in Boone County instead of moving out. It is not just job income that is hurting our community, it is the drug abuse too. The legislature needs to address the drug use problem by educating the future generations on why they need to stay away from drugs. Our community has made progress with mental health issues in our citizens but we still need improvement.
